• Codiaeum variegatum - yellow and/or pink vein banding and stunting.

Transmission

Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; transmitted by grafting.

Geographical distribution

Spreads in Italy.

Experimental host range

Few (<3) families susceptible.

Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms

• Chenopodium amaranticolor - systemic leaf chlorosis and distortion.
• Nicotiana glutinosa - chlorotic local lesions; systemic vein clearing and distortion, and plant stunting.

Diagnostically insusceptible host species

Chenopodium quinoa, Gomphrena globosa, Phaseolus vulgaris, Nicotiana clevelandii, N. tabacum.

Maintenance and propagation hosts

Nicotiana glutinosa.

Physical and biochemical properties

Particle morphology

Virions rhabdo- or bullet-shaped; with a clear modal length; of 180-240 nm; 70-80 nm wide.

Replication

Genome replicates in nuclei.

Cytopathology

Virions found in leaves and mesophyll; in nuclei and in the perinuclear space. Other cellular changes: : nuclei contain chromatin-rich clumps and less electron dense granular material.

Possible Nucleorhabdovirus: Rhabdoviridae
