Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Codiaeum variegatum; from Italy; by Bellardi et al. (1991).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
- Codiaeum variegatum - yellow and/or pink vein banding and
stunting.
Transmission
Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation;
transmitted by grafting.
Geographical distribution
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Chenopodium amaranticolor - systemic leaf chlorosis and
distortion.
- Nicotiana glutinosa - chlorotic local lesions;
systemic vein clearing and distortion, and plant stunting.
Diagnostically insusceptible host species
Chenopodium
quinoa, Gomphrena globosa, Phaseolus vulgaris, Nicotiana clevelandii, N.
tabacum.

Physical and biochemical properties
Particle morphology
Virions rhabdo- or
bullet-shaped; with a clear modal length; of 180-240 nm; 70-80 nm wide.
Replication
Genome replicates in nuclei.
Cytopathology
Virions found in leaves and mesophyll; in
nuclei and in the perinuclear space. Other cellular changes: : nuclei contain
chromatin-rich clumps and less electron dense granular material.
