Thanks for visiting! My name is Ian, and I'm a PhD student working in the Clinical Virology Research Unit (CVRU) and the Gene Therapy Unit (GTU) at the Sir Albert Sakzewski Virus Research Centre (SASVRC) in Brisbane, South-East Queensland, Australia - check out the SASVRC home page

You may have noticed difficulties in viewing or reading these pages, so I'll tell you a little of the background to VDU:
The pages were originally created on my little 486DX2/66 at home - now they emerge from my new Pentium II (112Mb RAM and 6.4Gb HDD) on its 17" monitor. The site was only a few pages to begin with, but has grown in a fairly ad hoc fashion. Because of this, the design "theme" has become a little hazy as I keep changing my mind on what looks good based on the latest trends from the 'Net. However, I have decided to try and adhere to my latest style until the entire site looks the same. Intentions are important! Being a generally nice guy, I do try to remember my roots and keep these pages viewable for all - but if I've failed then its up to you guys to let me know where, why and what you'd like to see instead!

I do occasionally get to see the pages on an Apple but on the whole they have been designed for Internet Explorer 4.0+ (currently using 5.0 - CSS here I come!), running on a PC with 256 colours and at least 800x600 resolution. Most of the pages (all when I get around to it) are designed to be 600 pixels wide.

If they load slowly I do apologise, I am trying to beat my gif-addiction, but am having little success! However, I have realised that size really does matter and I'm trying my gosh-darnedest (?) to keep 'em small. At the moment, a text-only version is not in the works-but who knows what the future holds (hopefully more time)?

I do appreciate any comments about how you recieve the pages because then I can try and spruce up the design accordingly.

Its my strong belief that this is a great medium for breaking down some of the walls we have imposed upon ourselves and utilizing some of the walls we have created because of computers.
I'm not a teacher (although all researchers do teach to some degree), a graphic desinber (although I like to play) and I'm not a computer expert (faaaarrrrrr from it) but I do have a desire to try and get across some of the information that various people have for years tried to place in my head, or that I have simply picked up in the course of my research.
I hope these pages can bring a little closer the local, and perhaps global scientific community.

Hey - this is my page, and I'm allowed to waffle a bit!!

Enjoy!
